Introduction

Abnormality in metabolism is an onslaught on key organs of the body, the kidney, the liver, the pancreas, the stomach, the heart and the brain, Because of this the scientific research concerning abnormal metabolism of protein, lipid, carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals in renal disease has progressed with leaps and bound. As a result of these new developments, the nutritional management of patients with renal disease had changed dramatically. The Society of Renal Nutrition & Metabolism is the brain child of Padmashree awardee Dr Anil Bhalla, Head Department of Nephrology Sir Ganga Ram Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi who felt the need of bringing to light importance of nutrition in renal patients through an official society.
